2011 Harvest Festivals

harvest-2011

The harvest season began in Early March at Cono Sur and will be in full swing through May. Each year, harvest festivals are held throughout the country and the first of the year took place the weekend of March 5th in Santa Cruz, part of the Colchagua Valley.

The festival featured Chilean music, crafts, food, games and, of course, wine. Cono Sur wines were featured at a stand where attendees were invited to taste several wines with origins in the valley such as 20 Barrels Limited Edition Merlot, Visión Single Vineyard Pinot Noir and Reserva Viognier, Carmenere and Syrah.

Additionally, wineries selected a spokesperson to represent them in the harvest games. The games consisted of several events including dancing the cueca (Chile’s national dance) and a race to crush grapes and fill six bottles of wine with their juice, among other events. Cono Sur’s spokesperson, Oscar Salazar, won the overall prize.

The harvest festival was a great way to celebrate the beginning of the 2011 harvest season.
