On May 12, Wines of Chile USA hosted the 3rd version of the Online Blogger Tasting, a virtual sampling that included more than 50 wine bloggers stationed across the United States around the theme Explore Chile: Sauvignon Blancs for Spring. Cono Sur was represented by winemaker Matias Ríos, who made a complete tasting of Cono Sur Organic Sauvignon Blanc 2009.
The fanatics logged in to the online video conference at 7 pm EDT, to ask questions and make comments about the wines to a panel of 8 winemakers of the represented wineries, gathered at the Marriot Hotel, in Santiago. The tasting and conversation was conducted by the Master Sommelier and Wines of Chile USA’s Educator, Fred Dexheimer, who was in New York.
The bloggers received in advance a sample of each of the participating wines, for they could taste them at the same time that the panel of specialists. The bloggers reception was amazing and they were very impressed of the good quality of Chilean white wines. One of the Tweets made at #SBChile, said: “Cono Sur is the first bottle emptied. I guess that means people like it.”
About the Cono Sur wine tasted, the bloggers from BottleReport.com made the following comments about the wine:
Cono Sur Organic Sauvignon Blanc 2009
Our notes: Good, simple wine. Apple notes on the palate. Very nice for sipping on the porch. Also good with food. We had it with Chicken Yakatori, a teriyaki-based marinade, and we loved it. Nice balance with the food.
Winemaker’s Comments: Our quest is to present the world with the finest grape expression and character from Chile’s varied wine regions. Right from the start Cono Sur applied the newest ideas and technology to winemaking’s traditional methods. Our main goal, therefore, is to create expressive and innovative wines from one of the world’s southernmost wine regions.
This Sauvignon Blanc, made from organically grown grapes, certified by BCS Öeko Garantie GmbH, carries the spirit of our farm workers pedaling their way to the Cono Sur vineyards every day. Young and fresh, this wine has a nice pale yellow color with green hints. Its intense nose of citric aromas, such as grapefruit and chili pepper notes, anticipates a balanced and mineral mouth of great acidity and persistence. Overall, this is an expressive, refreshing, delicate, juicy and balanced Sauvignon Blanc.
