Carbon Footprint Calculation
In 2009, Cono Sur calculated its carbon footprint for the entire company in Chile, which includes the Santiago office, the winery, and the vineyards. We did this in order to provide a precise diagnostic for climate change management.
What does this mean?
A carbon footprint is the total of greenhouse gases (GHG) emitted by a company and is measured in tons of CO2 equivalents.
In order to ensure consistency, transparency, credibility, regulation, and verification of their GHG emissions calculation, Cono Sur worked with the CEMARS™ program, based on the ISO 14064:2006.
What is CEMARS™?
CEMARS™ stands for Certified Emissions Measurement and Reduction Scheme and is a certificate of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions management and reduction. It is granted by CarbonZero, a New Zealand based company and pioneer in global environmental issues. Cono Sur Winery received this certification on August 3, 2010 for calculating its carbon footprint.
